General Labor (Seasonal) – City of Dayton


Location: 444 N Bend Blvd, Dayton, OH 45404
Pay: $16.00/hour
Season: March through October
Work Location: In person

Position Overview:
Join the City of Dayton’s seasonal team to help maintain public facilities, parks, and grounds during the growing season. This role focuses primarily on outdoor work and supports Public Works operations, grounds maintenance, and leisure programs. Please note that work availability may vary due to weather, with potential make-up days for rainouts.

What You’ll Do:
Responsibilities may include:

  • Grounds and facility maintenance for parks, athletic fields, vacant lots, highways, and roadways
  • Cleaning restrooms and park facilities
  • Operating mowing equipment, tractors, pick-up trucks, trailers, and hand tools
  • Landscaping, soil and plant care, and horticultural work
  • Minor painting, carpentry, fence repair, and playground equipment maintenance
  • Tree removal, trash pickup, and festival/event setup
  • Routine preventative equipment maintenance (oil changes, blade sharpening, filter replacement, lubrication)

Work Environment:

  • Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Independent work and team-based assignments
  • Training provided on required equipment by City of Dayton supervisors
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. regularly

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED OR six months of paid or volunteer work experience
  • Basic building/grounds maintenance knowledge
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Experience with lawn equipment, landscaping, or outdoor work preferred
  • Interest in sports or outdoor environments is a plus

Special Requirements:

  • Steel toe boots required daily (employee-provided)
  • Valid driver’s license required at time of appointment
  • Must obtain a valid Ohio driver’s license within 30 days if not already held
  • Background screening required

Preferred Skills for Higher Assignment Pay Consideration:

  • Experience operating utility tractors, mowing equipment, or truck/trailer combinations
  • Ability to maintain service requests, work orders, and maintenance records accurately
  • Preventative maintenance experience on equipment
